Quill Prose Award

Carrion was selected by Kazim Ali as the winner of Red Hen Press's 2021 Quill Prose Award for queer writers. This is the first work of nonfiction to win the contest and is Wes's first full-length publication. 

Each essay in the collection is a facet of the mythology and symbol of the raven, as storyteller, as omen, as teacher. All the essays are marked by a preoccupation and an ongoing struggle with language and its ability to represent the impermanent body and the abusive relationship.
